What is Meditation?

Many of you may be confused on the term called Meditation, actually what is mediation means? How does the meditation work and how to do meditation in correct way. According to Wikipedia definition,

“Meditation is a practice where an individual trains the mind or induces a mode of consciousness, either to realize some benefit or for the mind to simply acknowledge its content without becoming identified with that content, or as an end in itself.”

What is meditation

The term meditation refers to a broad variety of practices that includes techniques designed to promote relaxation, build internal energy or life force and develop compassion, love, patience, generosity, and forgiveness. Meditation is awareness of mind and whatever you do with your conscious mind as long as these activities are free from any other distraction to the mind, it is effective meditation. Meditation is not a technique but a way of life. It describes a state of consciousness, when the mind is free of scattered thoughts and various patterns . The observer (one who is doing meditation) realizes that all the activity of the mind is reduced to one. The word “meditate” actually means to think deeply about something.

The word meditation, is derived from two Latin words : meditari (to think, to exercise the mind) and mederi (to heal). Its Sanskrit derivation ‘medha‘ means wisdom. Many years ago meditation was considered something not meant for modern people, but now it has become very popular with almost all types of people. Scientific and medical evidence has proved its benefits, but it still needs much to be understood.

Their are many proven facts and researches which shows the benefit of Meditation. Studies confirm the experience of millions of people: meditation will keep you healthy, help prevent multiple diseases, make you emotionally well, and improve your performance in basically any task, physical or mental. Their are different types of meditation techniques for different kinds of people according to their need and concern. Meditation can also help us to understand our own mind. We can learn how to transform our mind from negative to positive, from disturbed to peaceful, from unhappy to happy.
